From Corporate America to Coach of the Year

Former Accountant Receives Accolades as TES Coach

Dwayne DuBose discovered a passion for helping people achieve their goals and a future as an entrepreneur when he left his corporate accounting career behind and joined The Entrepreneur’s Source® as a Career Ownership Coach™.

TES, the nation’s leading career coaching franchise, specializes in providing strategic, personalized coaching at no cost to help people discover a new path to self-sufficiency and financial freedom. During his tenure as a coach, DuBose is achieving his vision and has helped hundreds of people take a closer look at their future. In addition to guiding numerous people to pursue a path in franchising, DuBose helped others make the decision to start their own businesses. He spends time working with people who discovered the value of filling a role in the corporate world.

One of the keys to his success as a Career Ownership Coach™ is his ability to be detached from the outcome of his clients. TES coaches provide their services at no cost until a client makes the decision to pursue business ownership through franchising. By listening to clients and sharing his own experiences, DuBose is able to provide each client with a positive, individualized coaching experience.

“Dwayne was a terrific help as I looked to take the next step in my sales career,” said Jay Goldstein, one of DuBose’s former clients. “His approach was very comforting, and I always believed he was there to help me, not himself. He brought me some great options in the franchise space to explore. In the end, I took a paid sales position I was more comfortable with, and Dwayne continued to be supportive of my choice.” Goldstein took part in career ownership coaching with DuBose during a career transition. He opted to take a sales job rather than start his own business or franchise, and is currently a partnership manager at Go Answer, a provider of personalized receptionist services.

DuBose Named 2021 Coach of the Year

Once DuBose stopped trying to forecast profits, as he did as an accountant, his coaching career took off. DuBose garnered the 2021 Coach of the Year award from his peers at the Southbury, Connecticut-based company’s annual conference in October. The Coach of the Year award is presented annually to the coach who best exemplifies the qualities and spirit of TES, fosters strong client-coach relationships, and gives back to the system and fellow coaches.

“I put a lot of heart and passion into everything I do,” DuBose said. “Receiving this award means I’m helping other coaches and making a difference. It means I’m respected in the organization. I spent a lot of time at my corporate job feeling unappreciated, so this award means a lot to me.”

Identifying Goals Helped Coach Discover Self-Sufficiency

DuBose spent nearly 25 years working as an accountant in Houston, Texas. Plummeting oil prices prompted his last corporate employer to diversify its business to help increase profits. The company brought in new management to fuel international growth, which created a difficult work environment. Growing increasingly tired of being a dutiful corporate soldier and sick of feeling battered and bruised in his role as director of operations, DuBose started to look for new opportunities.

“I felt pigeonholed in my accounting career. I felt like it was the only pathway for me. I did have a successful career and made good money, but I wanted a new and bigger challenge. I wanted to do something I was passionate about,” DuBose said.

In addition to being unhappy on the job, DuBose discovered his corporate career was interfering with the time he spent with his family. “Even when I was at home with my family at the dinner table, the stressors at my job prevented me from spending time with them. I was present, but I wasn’t present,” he said.

As DuBose was exploring new opportunities, he started his journey to discover his Career 2.0 with TES. “I was burnt out, and the more I worked with my coach and learned about other opportunities, the more I became enamored with business ownership.”

During his discovery process, DuBose realized he wanted a work-from-home opportunity that would give him the work-life balance he craved and allow him to help people succeed. He launched his own career ownership coaching business with TES in 2019.
